How Does IV Sedation Work?

If you are a candidate for IV sedation, we will intravenously administer an anti-anxiety medication into your bloodstream.  Although you will be awake during your dental procedure, you will feel relaxed and at peace.

The steps for the IV sedation process are as follows:

1. First, we will numb your arm where the IV will be introduced.

2. Next, we will place the IV into your arm so it can deliver the sedative directly into your bloodstream.

3. We will carefully monitor your vital signs during your dental treatment.

4. Once your procedure is finished, we will remove the IV and give you ample time to recover before someone drives you home. You will feel groggy, so it’s important to go home and rest for the day.
